Heya everyone, I'm wondering if anyone has got this working on a Mac. I'm not talking a native version... I don't think that'd be in the cards given the way the game is built. Curious if anyone has tried it using something like Wine or Whisky.

I'm like 90% of the way there with Whiskey. I'm using DBOKEY.exe and it's running, I was able to log in and build a character, but...the character is missing a head and on Roshi's Island, no tutorial is happening. No movement either. Small steps, but I think its close.

Because you're not supposed to play that way. You have to use the launcher only or you'll have major issues.

Thank you! I've done the launcher and it's updated. The intro video will play with glitchy audio (I can get past that), then as soon as it's at the main login screen, it will crash and close immediately. I can't login or get to the main screen after updating through DBO Launcher.

I only know of WINE working for some players, I don't know much about mac myself. The game is strictly built for windows as well.

No worries, I'm going to keep testing it with different variables or do it via SteamDeck. Their proton layer seems to work fairly well for this kinda game. I'll share any results here.

Same results, finally got around to trying it out with Whisky and it opens, crashes after a few seconds once you hit the login. When I have another moment I'll try and test it out via Wine.

Update:
Fails on Wine as well, about the same place. This pops up, which is, well, not exactly the most helpful error message I've ever seen.

I'm getting the same thing in Crossover. I did finally get it to stop at a .NET Framework error:

The saga continues! I tried getting it rolling on Parallels and couldn't get past the launcher. It would give me 0xc000142 error even after following all the steps in the in game support FAQ post once I tried to start up the game after it did it's updates.

Will keep on attacking this from different angles. I'm sure between valdan and myself, one of us will get it working!

Hello good news, the 0x000142 error fix has been find out. It's a error related to missing/nor accessible specific .ddls that the game requires.

After some extensive try and error tests, we find out the two .dlls that was causing the error. Try putting these two .dlls in your game folder;

Great, thanks! Still testing on Parallels, I put those files into UltimateDBO's main folder as well as turned off HD Graphics, and was able to boot it up! For some reason after entering my account name and password, it took a long while to connect (I wasn't counting, but I'd say about two minutes) before it went to the character select screen. Progress from it shutting itself down when using Whisky / Wine!

Actual game play wise while on Parallels, I can't seem to right click on anything. This may be just an issue with my settings, since there are so many moving parts when it comes to VMs. Beyond that input issue, everything seems to be running as it should.

Update:
To fix the mouse issues when playing on Parallels, make sure you switch your virtual mouse settings to "optimize for games." If you leave it on "auto-detect" or "don't optimize for games" the camera freaks out when you left click and right clicking is impossible. With this, Parallels seems to be a working solution until we can figure out Whisky.

Yes parallel is the way to go. He is exactly right. ^^^^^^^^

do you know the steps i watched the tutorial they have on yt but its basically no help i downloaded wine but cant seem t extract it properly or w.e
Guide from our Discord:

Playing UDBO on Mac M-chips , a fortiori, M4
: Required software: Parallels desktop is the best option when it comes to play UDBO on Mac, It’s available on the App-Store BUT it's not free - Although you can try it for free.

UTM works but the game will likely lag and textures will not appear either. Crossover is a great tool but for playing UDBO since it does not have a proper « launcher » and the game will have the same issues as UTM.
Wine is not that user friendly and Whinsky is no longer developed.
Bootcamp is only available on intel chips mac.

Installation:
1-Install Parallels desktop through the App Store Follow the steps in the app in order to download and get windows on your Mac.
2-Don’t forget to install .NET on your Mac and Direct X - latest version works well - on your windows virtual machine. The game will not work without.
3-
Go to your virtual machine settings on parallels - right click - then mouse and keyboard settings and choose this option « optimised for games » . It is necessary unless you don’t want to right click correctly in game. You can play

Nota bene
When you play , make sure to play while your Mac is charged.
By doing so, you’ll avoid to do too much cycles of the battery and, if fine, consuming it too fast. Therefore, the Mac will use the charger instead of the battery.
Giving 4Go of RAM for Windows is enough since DBO is an old game. Buy a mouse if you don’t have it
