Welcome to my first blog! My name is Damero, and today we’ll talk about the currently ongoing series, Dragon Ball Daima. Just a warning—there will be SPOILERS.

As "Dragon Ball Daima" approaches its highly anticipated conclusion on February 28, fans worldwide are reflecting on the journey that has unfolded over the past months. This series, which premiered on October 11, 2024, stands as a significant milestone, marking the final project overseen by the legendary Akira Toriyama before his passing in March 2024.

A Tribute to a Legacy

"Dragon Ball Daima" was conceived as a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the "Dragon Ball" franchise. The series offers a fresh narrative set between the events of "Dragon Ball Z" and "Dragon Ball Super." The plot centers around Gomah, the new Supreme King of the Demon Realm, who, with the aid of Degesu, uses the Dragon Balls to transform Goku and his allies into children. This devious act forces our heroes to embark on a perilous journey through the Demon Realm to reclaim their original forms and thwart Gomah's sinister plans.

Production and Release

The series had its world premiere at Tokyo Big Sight on October 6, 2024, during the Dragon Ball Daimatsuri event. Following this, it began its television broadcast on Fuji TV on October 11, 2024, airing on Fridays at 11:40 p.m. The first episode was notably extended by ten minutes, offering fans an immersive introduction to the new storyline. For international audiences, platforms like Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Netflix facilitated streaming, ensuring global accessibility.

Critical Reception

Upon its release, "Dragon Ball Daima" garnered widespread acclaim. On Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts an impressive approval rating of 100% based on five reviews, with an average rating of 7/10. Critics have lauded the series for its nostalgic appeal and its ability to introduce fresh elements to the beloved franchise. Notably, episodes 18 and 19 received exceptional praise, with episode 19, titled "Betrayal," being described as "the groundwork for greatness" and delivering "everything fans want."

Fan Engagement and Viewership

The series achieved significant milestones in viewership. It reached second place among non-English shows on Netflix and secured top 10 positions in several Asian countries, including first place in India. The theatrical release of the English dub's first three episodes in the United States grossed over $661,000, reflecting the series' broad appeal. Episodes featuring pivotal transformations, such as Vegeta's Super Saiyan 3, led to surges in television ratings and even caused server outages on streaming platforms due to overwhelming demand.

Anticipation for the Finale

As the series nears its end, anticipation has reached a fever pitch. The introduction of transformations like Super Saiyan 4 for Goku has added layers of excitement and speculation among fans. The final episode, set to air on February 28, 2025, promises to deliver a climactic conclusion to this chapter of the "Dragon Ball" saga.

"Dragon Ball Daima" has not only honored the rich legacy of Akira Toriyama but has also expanded the "Dragon Ball" universe in innovative ways. As we approach the series finale, fans worldwide eagerly await the resolution of this thrilling adventure, hopeful for more stories in the ever-evolving "Dragon Ball" universe.

Personal opinion

And as a personal opinion, as someone who has followed the anime since episode 1, while it has its ups and downs, this is still a work created by the great Akira Toriyama. That means everything we’ve seen in this series is completely canon. There is no anime that compares to Dragon Ball, because Dragon Ball is one of a kind. So, from Uruguay to the heavens, I send you a big hug, Akira Toriyama sensei.

That's all for now! Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you enjoyed it. I’d appreciate it if you could rate this blog positively. See you in the next one!
